One valuable element of being a member of the DFA of California is the ability to request the DFA’s assistance as an arbitration facilitator.  Over the years, the DFA has helped literally dozens of members settle product or services claims or disputes that would have been much more costly using the court system.

In short, the process begins with the member completing and presenting a Request for Arbitration to the DFA President and Secretary.  If the member’s request is acceptable, the DFA will then request the opposing party complete its Request for Arbitration.  Once both sides present their respective applications along with brief arguments to the DFA President and Secretary, the DFA will determine if it can effectively facilitate the process.  If the DFA agrees to facilitate, the process continues with the selection of three neutral DFA member arbiters familiar with the industry situation being arbitrated.  The panel of three arbiters will examine evidence, receive testimony if appropriate, evaluate all the facts and alternatives and conclude by presenting their findings in the form of an award.
